Queens dairy restaurants and associated businesses
Cooperdale Dairy, Middle Village, Queens
David Wilson shares the following story:
"My great aunt Jenny had a dairy farm in Middle Village, Queens. It was Cooperdale Dairy. In the 50's when we would visit her, she would greet us but made all the kids line up outside. She disappeared for a while and came back with a pitcher of warm milk and poured out glasses for us. Then she encouraged us to drink up. Only then would she say 'Good. Come now and give me a kiss and come into the house.' My mother told me that her Uncle Yankel started out delivering milk with a horse and wagon. I'm sure some of his customers were dairy restaurants!
The farm was next to the Catholic cemetery in Forest Hills where all the big name Mafiosi are buried."

Help identify a dairy restaurant in Jamaica, Queens [from Ellen Hudes]
"I spent my childhood in Springfield Gardens, Queens. In the early 1950s my parents would take me to a dairy restaurant in downtown Jamaica. It was located on Jamaica Ave. and I think Sutphin Blvd. It was a typical dairy restaurant with good kosher food. It probably shut down in the early/mid 50s. I have strong memories of this place and my favorites there - kasha varnishkes and blintzes. Does anyone happen to know of this place? Happy memories!"
