Bernat dairy restaurant inquiry from Mike Scheiner
I was recently made aware of Bernat, a dairy restaurant (I believe it was on the lower east side) where my grandfather Nathan Scheiner was a part owner.
The other owner was Bernard (?) don’t know the last name. The restaurant was probably around in the 20’s, maybe 30’s.

Does anyone know of this restaurant? Please email me.

Lower 5th Avenue dairy restaurant?
"My grandfather had a dairy restaurant from around 1943-1951 on, I think, Fifth Avenue in Manhattan possibly in the low 20’s. Unfortunately he spoke very little about it and the only other person that would have been helpful was my mom who passed away recently. My family didn’t talk much about the past. I did hear stories of some of the food that was offered but that’s about it. He was an excellent cook at home though. His name was Sam Spechler.  Any clues to this restaurant’s existence?
Thanks,
Norma Grant"

Your grandfather's name does not appear in my book, but there were a few dairy restaurants on lower 5th Ave. If you know anything about this restaurant, please email me.
Hammer's Dairy Restaurant cookbook?
Henry Sapoznik mentions having owned a copy of a Hammer's Dairy Restaurant Cookbook. "I got it from one of the waiters I got friendly with (Moe? Morris?) when I lived in the neighborhood. He said they found a batch of them when they were renovating the place with the money they got for letting them film a scene there from The Front. They closed soon after."
Has anyone seen a copy of this self-published book?
