Memories from Mark Rubin
My first cousin, once removed, was married to Charlie Metzger’s [owner of the Garden Cafeteria] daughter Ruth. Family tells me my grandfather and Charlie were very close friends, as well.
My only recollection involved the only time I met Mr. Metzger. Six years old in 1964, visiting New York for the World’s Fair. We had a family gathering at The Garden Cafeteria and I wanted a meatball on my spaghetti. I got my intro to kashrut. (When my parents moved West, they left behind lots of rituals.)
