The Dairy Planet Restaurant, 182 Broadway (corner John St.)
When I worked around the corner, I frequented this large, deep-basement restaurant in the 1980s. It was rarely busy and I wondered how it could stay in business. Elaborately designed red velour banquettes on raised platforms, sour-cream stains, friendly waitress. I remember ordering matzo brei with sour cream. (BK)

Joe Brancatelli recalls starting  "four 1980s computer magazines with a small team of folks over long lunches at Dairy Planet, a short-lived "modern" dairy restaurant on Broadway."
A 1987 ad in The Jewish Observer boasts "After hours, we're still cooking at The Dairy Planet. A landmark in fine Kosher-vegetarian & Seafood Dining. Enjoy our Nouvelle Cuisine! Evenings until 9PM"

Cited for a health code violation in 1982. In bankruptcy court September 26, 1985.  "Nathan Feldman filed a petition for reorganization under Chapter 11. Odd Couple Restaurant Corp. d/b/a Gefens Kosher Dairy Restaurant ("Odd Couple"), a corporation of which Feldman is president."
